Programme Overview

PICOMS 3 years Diploma in Nursing programme develops student know how in nursing, enabling them to provide safe and competent care in various healthcare settings. The course combines theoretical learning in classrooms and practical training in simulation ward and skills lab. In addition, students will be required to attend practical placements in participating local hospitals. The strong emphasis in nursing knowledge and hands on training ensures graduates competency as Registered Nurses as well as giving them the cutting edge in the health care industry.

The curriculum for the Diploma in Nursing is based on the national requirements from the Malaysia Nursing Board and is fully approved. The programme provides the student with a complete experience in the different fields of nursing. So much, the students will be able to select the particular area of interest to eventually focus on PICOMS International University College arranges clinical placements for candidates to guarantee a position in the healthcare services, be it locally or internationally.

Upon completion of the nursing programme and passing the Malaysia Nursing Board’s exam, student will be awarded the Registered Nurse status. They then can work in various private/government hospitals, private clinics, nursing homes and any other healthcare facilities locally or internationally. They can further their study in special areas such as post basics.

Following a two year clinical experience they can pursue their study under post graduate study to take the post of lecturer, manager or director of nursing.

They may entrepreneurially run their own nursing home or other nursing care services to serve the community.

They may choose to be a Clinical Staff Nurse or a Private Nurse.

For Malaysian candidates

i) Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent with five credits:

 

Mandatory credit in:

• Bahasa melayu

• Mathematics (elementary or additional or modern)

 

AND

Either one (1) of the credits below:

• General science

• Biology

• Chemistry and pass in Biology

• Physics and pass in Biology

• Applied sciences

AND

Credit in two other subjects

ii) Pass English

 

For International candidates

i) Passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia(SPM) or its equivalent with a minimum of five (5) credits in the following subjects;

Mandatory credit in :

• Mathematics (Elementary or Additional or Modern)

AND

Either ONE of the credit below :

• General science

• Biology

• Chemistry and pass in Biology

• Physics and pass in Biology

• Applied sciences

AND

Credits in three (3) other subjects

AND

A pass in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with an overall band score of minimum 5.5;

OR

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

• TOEFL Paper Based Test (TOEFL PBT) a minimum score of 515

• TOEFL Computer Based Test (TOEFL PBT) a minimum score of 215

• TOEFL Internet Based Test (TOEFL PBT) a minimum score of 80
